Number of clues to murder from 33 years ago increases
Police are receiving more and more tips from the public in the investigation into the death of a woman near Nuremberg in 1990. The number of tips had increased from 40 to more than 60 by Friday, said a police spokesman.
With the help of the public, investigators want to catch the perpetrator in the case that happened 33 years ago. The 22-year-old woman had left a garden restaurant after a party and her body was later found nearby.
On Wednesday evening, two investigators presented the case on the ZDF program "Aktenzeichen XY...". Previously, during investigations into a burglary committed in 2012, they had come across a DNA trace that matched traces on the body of the deceased. High-quality tools had been stolen during the burglary.
During the investigation into the homicide, the victim's husband was initially targeted by the police. However, a court acquitted him in 1998 due to a lack of evidence. According to the police, the new DNA trace did not match any of the previous suspects.
Despite the progress in the investigation in Germany, the case remains unsolved in central France. A chilling reminder of a similar crime occurred in the heart of France three decades ago.
