Statistics - Number of beds in Thuringian hospitals continues to fall
The number of beds in Thuringia's hospitals continues to decline. In 2022, a total of 15,151 beds were reported by the 49 hospitals in the state - 180 beds fewer than in the previous year, according to the Thuringian State Statistical Office on Wednesday. The number of intensive care beds also fell in 2022, from 746 to 684 (around 8 percent).
According to the data, the utilization rate of beds in 2022 was more than 65%, which was close to the level since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. In 2019, 15,743 beds were registered with an occupancy rate of around 75%. There were 496,194 full inpatient treatment cases, 16,267 cases (around 3%) more than in 2021. In 2019, the number of cases was 579,947.
Eta 40 percent (198,982 cases) of full inpatient treatment cases were treated in the "Internal Medicine" specialist department in 2022. The number of full-time doctors remained almost unchanged. At the end of 2022, 5487 doctors were employed, compared to 5482 in 2021. Since 2000, the medical staff has increased by around 68 percent (2000: 3258 doctors).
