Justice - NSDAP slogan used? Trial against Björn Höcke

AfD politician Björn Höcke must stand trial at the regional court in Halle for allegedly using the symbols of unconstitutional and terrorist organizations. This was decided by the Naumburg Higher Regional Court, as announced on Thursday. According to the office of the Thuringian AfD leader, this is the first time that investigations have led to criminal proceedings against him. It was initially unclear when the trial would begin.

Höcke is accused of using a banned slogan of the so-called Sturmabteilung (SA), the paramilitary fighting organization of the NSDAP, in a speech in Merseburg (Saalekreis) in Anhalt on 29 May 2021. Höcke is said to have known that the last part of the slogan "Everything for our homeland, everything for Saxony-Anhalt, everything for Germany" was a banned slogan, according to the accusation. The Office for the Protection of the Constitution in Thuringia classifies Höcke as a right-wing extremist.

With its decision to hold a trial before the large criminal chamber in Halle, the court in Naumburg is responding to an appeal by the public prosecutor's office in Halle. This had been preceded by a decision by the regional court in Halle that the main proceedings should be conducted before the district court in Merseburg. The decision of the Naumburg Higher Regional Court is final.
