- NRW supports 2,000 micro-projects against loneliness
The North Rhine-Westphalian state government is providing two million euros for a small grants program to combat loneliness. From August 19th, associations, initiatives, civil society groups, and other engaged individuals can submit applications via the online funding portal "engagementfoerderung.nrw".
Up to 2,000 projects will receive 1,000 euros each, as announced by the State Chancellery in Düsseldorf. "The funding program is specifically aimed at combating loneliness across all age groups and target audiences."
This could involve community centers or offers to encourage people to talk to each other more. Training for volunteers to raise awareness of loneliness and develop strategies to combat it within their own associations is also possible. Measures against discrimination and bullying, promoting tolerance and integration could also be eligible for funding.
Wüst: Loneliness harms social cohesion
"Loneliness is the social question of our time," confirmed Minister President Hendrik Wüst (CDU), who has been committed to the issue for some time. "It doesn't just harm those affected, but also our social cohesion."
Therefore, the state government wants to raise awareness, support the many volunteers in NRW, and thank all those engaged in their daily efforts to combat loneliness. According to the State Chancellery, there are already over 430 initiatives listed on the online platform "einsamkeit.nrw" alongside further information and best practice examples.
The Commission, in accordance with Article 113, shall adopt the implementing acts required for this small grants program. This program aims to provide financial support to various initiatives and groups working towards combating loneliness.
