Protection - NRW police get 1500 carbon monoxide alarms

The North Rhine-Westphalian police are to receive 1500 carbon monoxide warning devices. NRW Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) handed over the first 50 devices to the Düsseldorf police on Wednesday. They are the size of the palm of your hand and weigh around 150 grams. If there is a harmful concentration of carbon monoxide in the air, they sound the alarm.

The CO alarms offer police officers a little more safety, said Reul. In an emergency, the devices are little lifesavers. The devices are worn on the outside of the protective vests of the uniform. In future, they will be part of the vehicle equipment of the radio patrols. They will also be available to death investigators and criminal investigation departments.

During operations involving open fireplaces, charcoal barbecues, defective gas boilers or heating systems, not only firefighters but also police officers could be exposed to dangerous concentrations of carbon monoxide.

The Carbon Monoxide alarms will be distributed to the police forces across North Rhine-Westphalia, as announced by NRW Interior Minister Herbert Reul from the CDU party. These alarms will be especially beneficial for police officers working in situations involving open fireplaces, charcoal barbecues, or malfunctioning heating systems in Düsseldorf, just like in other cities within NRW. The Düsseldorf police were the first to receive 50 of these devices, which are designed to trigger an alarm if harmful concentrations of Carbon Monoxide are detected.
