Taxes - NRW MPs should reject agricultural diesel savings plans
NRW Agriculture Minister Silke Gorißen (CDU) has appealed to members of the Bundestag from North Rhine-Westphalia not to approve the plans in the dispute over the announced end to tax breaks for farmers. "The announced cuts to the tax refund for agricultural diesel and the exemption from vehicle tax from 2024 are a low blow for our farmers," she wrote in a letter to the MPs, according to the state chancellery. With this decision, the federal government is creating further disadvantages for farms in international competition.
According to initial estimates, the abolition of the tax rebate for agricultural diesel alone would cost a typical full-time family farm around two thousand to four thousand euros more per year, depending on the type of farm, according to a statement published by the ministry on Monday. In addition, the planned abolition of the tax exemption for vehicles used in agriculture and forestry would also have a negative impact. Horticultural businesses are also affected by the plans.
