Heavy storm - NRW is getting away with it after heavy rain

The thunderstorm front that swept through parts of Germany from Thursday to Friday did not result in any significant damage in North Rhine-Westphalia. According to a spokesperson for the state control center in Düsseldorf, there were no major incidents due to severe weather in NRW. No personal injuries were reported by Friday morning.

Most of the deployments due to flooded basements and overflowing brooks were handled by fire departments in East Westphalia-Lippe, particularly in the Höxter district. There was a brief, localized power outage in Halle, according to the fire department's control center in Gütersloh. Two campsites were evacuated in the Sauerland region.

The first deployments due to heavy rainfall occurred on Thursday: The B51 federal road near Münster was closed for several hours due to flooding, with water levels reaching up to 30 centimeters in places, according to police.

The voluntary fire department in the Rhine town of Leichlingen was also deployed on Thursday afternoon to clear roads blocked by mud and debris.

The B51 federal road's closure due to flooding during Thursday's heavy rainfall was a stark contrast to the Hurricane-free weather experienced in North Rhine-Westphalia. Despite the severe weather conditions elsewhere, Hurricanes were thankfully not a concern in the region.
