Gatherings for Socializing - NRW-AfD desires to disregard right-wing extremist Helferich: Allegations
The right-wing party AfD in North Rhine-Westphalia has started the process to expel Bundestag MP Matthias Helferich. The reason is that he allegedly violated the German constitution. The party filed a complaint with the AfD North Rhine-Westphalia Disciplinary Court, where they claim Helferich called for the forced deportation of German citizens with a migration background and other categories, calling them "scum."
Helferich made these comments while serving as a Dortmund MP in the Bundestag, not just in a post on December 19, 2023 on platform X, but also in other posts and publications "in various locations." According to party insiders, the state executive has been unable to tolerate the deviations of the non-factional party member for some time, but there was no clear explanation. On Tuesday, a spokesperson for the state party told dpa that the AfD in North Rhine-Westphalia would not comment on ongoing proceedings. The World newspaper first reported the story, citing the petition. The AfD North Rhine-Westphalia Disciplinary Court must now decide on the petition.
According to the state party executive, lawyer Helferich has "seriously violated the Basic Law and the fundamental program of the AfD," causing significant damage to the party. The deputy's actions are "unacceptable." The executive board accused him in a letter: "The scenarios that threaten people like Matthias Helferich should ever be given political-executive power remind us of the darkest chapters of human history and specifically, of German history."
Helferich, who has been a non-factional member of the Bundestag since 2021, was recently elected to one of the five supervisory board positions at the NRW-AfD party conference in Marl. This was considered a defeat for the supposedly moderate faction led by state party and state parliamentary group leader Martin Vincentz.
