"Not used to it": Ice field hockey women enjoy attention

The win against Denmark is just the beginning. The 1:0 victory in the ice hockey women's first Germany Cup match was not only fun for the players around goal scorer Jennifer Miller. 1028 fans in Landshut provided the perfect setting on Wednesday evening. "We're not used to this. So many people," said national team player Emily Nix.

Especially in the final minutes, the hall at the traditional venue on the Isar really got into it. Denmark took the goalkeeper out and the crowd became a strong support for the German players on the ice. "It was very loud," said the strong goalkeeper Sandra Abstreiter. "It was very cool."

Normally, the women's ice hockey team plays in the Bundesliga in front of around a hundred spectators. On Friday against Finland (19.00 hrs/Magentasport), almost 3000 fans are expected. "It's an incredibly good feeling to play in front of so many people," enthused Miller.

The 25-year-old forward from Mad Dogs Mannheim not only scored the winning goal for the first time at the Germany Cup, which was held jointly with the men, but also the first goal for a DEB team. "That's something very special," explained Miller. "I was incredibly happy."

The women's ice hockey team is typically used to playing in front of a smaller crowd. Despite their success in DEB, they've never before played in front of such a large audience.
