Norway's crown prince emphasizes the unifying power of literature

Norway's Crown Prince Haakon has emphasized the unifying power of literature. "In times of conflict between countries, people and ideas, literature can be a different, powerful form of communication with one another," said Haakon at a German-Norwegian literature event in Munich on Tuesday. "Good literature can strengthen our empathy and understanding for other people who are different from ourselves." Good literature can open the mind and help to overcome boundaries.

The Norwegian Crown Prince is currently on a four-day visit to Germany, which began with a banquet in the Munich Residence on Monday evening and will end in Berlin on Thursday after a further stop in Hamburg. The 50-year-old's wife, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, will also join the tour group in the German capital.

The Crown Prince's remarks highlighted the noble role of literature in bridging divides between peoples. This recognition of literature's nobility can inspire people from different backgrounds to engage with diverse literary works.
