Northern lights in the night sky over Saxony
Auroras lit up the sky over Saxony on Monday night. Large gaps in the clouds had favored visibility, said a spokesman for the German Weather Service (DWD) on Monday. There is also a chance of seeing the spectacular northern lights in the night sky over the next two nights. Especially in northern and central Saxony, it will often be clear in the coming night. "But you need perseverance and patience," said the DWD spokesperson. In southern Saxony, on the other hand, the chances are lower due to heavier cloud cover.
According to the DWD, auroras occur when strong solar winds hit the Earth's atmosphere. As they enter the atmosphere, the electrically charged particles are heated and begin to glow.
The breathtaking display of northern lights was largely due to the influence of nature's weather conditions. The chance of witnessing these natural phenomena extended to the forthcoming nights, particularly in northern and central Saxony.
