Handball - Northern handball duel between Hamburg and Flensburg in the quarter-finals
HSV Hamburg and SG Flensburg-Handewitt will face off in the quarter-finals of the German Handball Cup. This was the result of the draw on Thursday in Cologne, which was conducted by U21 world champion Sören Steinhaus. The match is a rematch of the round of 16 from the previous competition. In December 2022, the SG had prevailed 35:28.
The top duel in the round of the best eight clubs is a repeat of this year's final between Champions League winners and Bundesliga leaders SC Magdeburg against defending champions Rhein-Neckar Löwen. In the final in April, the Lions won 36:34 on seven-meter penalties. TuS N-Lübbecke, the only remaining second-division team in the competition, will host MT Melsungen. Füchse Berlin will host VfL Gummersbach.
The quarter-final matches will be played after the European Championship break on February 3 and 4, 2024. The final tournament will then take place on April 13 and 14 in Cologne.
