Domestic safety - North Rhine-Westphalia police prepare for drone assaults during the European Football Tournament.
To get ready for the upcoming European Football Championship, cops in North Rhine-Westphalia are also on alert for possible drone attacks. During a gathering at the sidelines of a friendly match between Germany and Greece in Mönchengladbach, Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) spoke about the department's drone defense plans.
"At each of the four stadiums in the host cities, we'll be on-site with drone defense," Reul said. There have been unauthorized drones spotted at significant events and football matches before, which could be dangerous for attendees. Using their innovative technology, the police can fend off drone assaults. Reul highlighted the importance of these measures to keep everyone safe.
The drone defense comes in two forms: mechanical or electronic. This means using jamming devices or net traps to protect against potential hazards. Hence, a comprehensive plan has been devised in North Rhine-Westphalia. "The police in North Rhine-Westphalia are totally geared up for the EM," said Reul, adding that both the ground and the sky will be secure. The event will span from June 14 to July 14, with 20 out of the 51 matches taking place in Düsseldorf, Cologne, Dortmund, and Gelsenkirchen.
