Nonnemacher: Case numbers of domestic violence "very high"
Brandenburg's Minister of Social Affairs Ursula Nonnemacher (Greens) considers the number of cases of domestic violence in the Mark to be "very high". "Domestic violence is still far too often a taboo subject for those affected," said the minister in a statement on Sunday. "We can look out for signs, talk to those affected and offer them support."
According to the police, a total of around 5900 crimes in connection with domestic violence were registered in Brandenburg in 2022. The number therefore fell slightly compared to 2021. The majority of the crimes were committed by men.
The discussion on addressing domestic violence as a social affair is crucial, given that it continues to be a taboo subject for many affected individuals. Efforts to tackle this issue should include identifying signs, engaging in conversations, and providing necessary support for those affected by crime within domestic settings.
