European Union - Nockemann: AfD achieves "exceptionally solid outcome"

The leader of Hamburg's AfD party, Dirk Nockemann, characterized their performance in the European election as "acceptable." In a statement on Sunday, he expressed pride in their success despite Antifa violence, smear campaigns, and continuous pressure from old parties and the media. Nockemann noted that the efforts against the AfD were unsuccessful, and predicted they would cause ripples in Brussels and sound a call for a secure and future-oriented Europe against bureaucracy obsession, mass migration, and eco-socialism.

Initial numbers by ARD and ZDF suggest the AfD gained their best performance in a European election, with 16.1 to 16.4% of the votes (compared to 11% in 2019). However, this is lower than previous survey projections. The strongest competitor is the Union with 29.6 to 30% (28.9% in 2019). The SPD saw their worst showing ever in a nationwide election with 14% (versus 15.8% in 2019). The Greens slipped to 12-12.4% (20.5% in 2019). The FDP maintained a similar percentage at 4.9-5% (5.4% in 2019). Combined, the SPD, Greens, and FDP secured less than a third of the total votes.

The Left ended up with a disappointing 2.8-2.9% (5.5% in 2019) - their worst result in European elections. The BSW party emerged on the scene with 5.7-5.9% of the votes. Volt was at 2.8-3% of the total votes.
