No wave of entry into the Thuringian Left Party

In contrast to its party colleagues in neighboring Saxony, the Thuringian Left Party regional association has not yet seen a wave of new members joining the party. Since Sahra Wagenknecht's announcement that she would be founding her own party, there has been a balance between new members joining and leaving the party, said a spokesperson for the Thuringian Left Party when asked. Since the official announcement of a Wagenknecht party around a month ago, there have been 50 new members and 50 resignations from the Thuringian state association. However, the membership figures are not always completely up to date, with reports sometimes arriving several days late, according to the spokesperson.

In the neighboring state of Saxony, the Left Party recorded an unusual increase in members. Over the past weekend alone, 56 people joined the party, said the spokesperson for the Saxon Left Party state association. He cited several appeals, including from the Left's European candidate, Carola Rackete, at the national party conference in Augsburg last Saturday, as the reason for this.

The Berlin Left Party has also seen a mass influx of members. On Monday, 269 people joined the party in one fell swoop, according to the party's regional managing director Sebastian Koch.

The Thuringian Left Party still had around 3,400 members in June. The party did not initially disclose how many there are now.

Despite the establishment of Sahra Wagenknecht's new party, some members have chosen to leave the Thuringian Left Party, balancing out the number of new members joining. In response to the wave of new members in neighboring states, the Thuringian Left Party has not seen a similar surge, maintaining a steady membership count.
