No vehicle registration due to disruption in several offices
Numerous people in Bavaria were unable to register their vehicles on Thursday due to a state-wide IT breakdown. The reason for this was a technical fault at the Anstalt für Kommunale Datenverarbeitung in Bayern (AKDB), which says it provides services for the majority of traffic authorities. A network fault severed the connection to the central government network and thus also to the Federal Motor Transport Authority. The connection was restored by the afternoon, according to the AKDB.
It is not known how many people were unable to register their cars, scooters and the like. The Bamberg district office, for example, announced that registrations would be possible again without restrictions from Friday. Citizens should apply for new appointments for the registrations that were not possible on Thursday.
According to the institution, 80 registration and driving license offices were affected nationwide, around a quarter of them outside Bavaria. The AKDB is a public institution. According to its own information, its customers include over 5,000 local authorities, municipalities, cities, counties, districts, public institutions and the federal government.
Despite the IT issue being resolved in the afternoon, vehicle registrations in Upper Bavaria and Lower Bavaria might still be delayed due to the disruption. The authorities are advising affected individuals to contact their local registration offices to reschedule their registrations.
