- No Updates on Animal Park's Aged Airbus After Four Weeks' Silence
The ongoing disagreement concerning the prohibited relocation of a retired aircraft to the Serengeti Park in the South Heath area hasn't made any progress. In response to a court case held at Hannover's Administrative Court, the judge granted more time due to numerous pending issues, as shared by Serengeti Park's owner, Fabrizio Sepe, based in Hodenhagen. The situation seems stagnant - "I haven't heard anything for four weeks." However, Sepe maintains optimism, focusing on the relocation of a 350-ton former submarine U17 from Kiel to the Technik Museum Sinsheim in Baden-Württemberg, which passed through nature preservation areas.
New Eatery in the Works
Serengeti Park acquired the German military's Airbus "Kurt Schumacher" to transform it into a dining establishment. Previously, it transported Afghan military personnel and their family members to Hannover. The initial plan was to transport the aircraft's fuselage via a 50-kilometer route from the airport to Hodenhagen during the summer of 2022. The separated wings and tail fin were transported to the park.
The Region Hannover rejected the park's appeal for a nature conservation exemption for the vehicle transport in mid-November 2023. This rejection led to the prohibition of transporting the A310 Airbus fuselage from Hannover Airport in Langenhagen through a protected area into the park. The planned route spans approximately 1.8 kilometers through this protected land.
Request for New Discussion with Region Hannover
Sepe has requested a fresh talk with the Region Hannover, currently waiting for their response. The park is currently facing hardships without its anticipated third restaurant, he stressed.
According to earlier statements made by the region, the park must provide evidence that the transport won't cause any damage – or, alternatively, the region must grant an exemption from the damage prevention rule. A vehicle transport of this magnitude isn't compatible with the prevailing regulations.
The German Armed Forces originally owned the Airbus "Kurt Schumacher," which is now being transformed into a dining establishment by Serengeti Park.
Despite facing challenges in relocating other exhibits due to nature conservation issues, the German Armed Forces' former submarine U17 was successfully moved to the Technik Museum Sinsheim.
