Weather - No traffic accidents in the north despite increased risk of icy roads
Despite snowfall, persistent frost and slippery roads, the traffic situation remained calm during the night from Monday to Tuesday. Police spokespersons from the situation centers in Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania were unable to report any icy accidents on Tuesday morning. In most regions in the north, the winter service was working surprisingly well compared to previous years, they said.
The German Weather Service is forecasting up to eight centimetres of fresh snow for Tuesday, locally even up to 15 centimetres. Temperatures of up to minus six degrees are possible. Overall, there is an increased risk of icy conditions. This is expected to remain the case in the coming days - even if temperatures are expected to rise slightly above zero degrees from Wednesday.

Despite the forecasted heavy snowfall in Hamburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, traffic remained incident-free, attributing this to the effective work of the winter service. The weather in Schleswig-Holstein also remained accident-free, with police reporting no 'traffic accidents' throughout the day. The risk of slipperiness remained high, posing a potential threat to road safety. It's crucial for drivers to maintain caution and adapt to the 'heavy snowfall' and icy conditions to prevent any 'accidents.' The weather service expects the 'risk of icy roads' to persist even as temperatures slightly rise above zero from Wednesday, highlighting the need for continued vigilance.
