- No threat to Thuringian schools so far
Police currently have no indications of an imminent threat following bomb threats at several schools in Thuringia. The State Police Inspectorate in Gotha confirmed that schools in Friedrichroda, Eisenach, Stadtilm, and Ilmenau had been evacuated, with students and teachers leaving the buildings. However, classes at one high school in Ilmenau have since resumed.
In Weimar, the school operation continues at a high school. Police searched the two buildings belonging to the school but found nothing suspicious. "We're still on the scene, but at this point, we don't believe there's a harmful situation," a police spokesperson said.
Police also found nothing during the search of the five affected schools in Erfurt. Students were allowed to go home or be picked up by their parents. "We're taking this seriously. This isn't a trivial matter, it's a criminal offense," the spokesperson said. Investigations are underway for disrupting public peace by threatening a crime.
Bomb Threat via Email
Identical emails from the same sender were discovered at multiple schools in Thuringia on the first day back after the summer holidays, threatening a bomb. This is not the first time such threats have been made via email. Last fall, there was a series of similar threats, but police were able to give the all-clear at the time.
The Police in Weimar are maintaining a presence at a high school after conducting a thorough search, but no suspicious findings were made. Despite the bomb threat via email, classes at another high school in Ilmenau have resumed.
