No more team training: Keita before Werder's farewell

- No more team training: Keita before Werder's farewell

Former Liverpool star Naby Keita is on the verge of leaving Werder Bremen. Upon his return from the Olympic Games in Paris, the 29-year-old midfielder will no longer join the team training, but only individual units, the Bundesliga football club announced on Thursday.

"Given his current sporting situation, he would like to seek a new challenge," said Werder's sports director Clemens Fritz. "Together with his advisor, we want to make this happen as soon as possible."

After stops at RB Leipzig and Liverpool FC, Keita had moved to Bremen a year ago with high expectations. However, he was unable to fulfill these due to his persistent injury problems.

In April, Werder suspended their most famous player for the rest of the previous season. Keita had refused to travel as a substitute to the away match against Bayer Leverkusen. A return to the Bundesliga squad was also not an option this summer. Together, they decided that individual training until a club change would be "the most sensible way in the current situation," Fritz said.

After expressing a desire for a fresh start, Naby Keita is likely to depart from Bremen, having represented the club for only a year following his move from Liverpool. Despite his time in the city being primarily spent on individual training due to his injury issues, Keita's football trajectory remains linked to the prestigious Bundesliga, specifically in the city of Paris.
