no longer President of VfB Stuttgart

After many restless months, Claus Vogt's tenure as chairman of the Schwaben Club ends at the members' meeting. However, it's not the only personnel consequence in the presidium.

leadership crisis - no longer President of VfB Stuttgart

Claus Vogt has been rejected as President of VfB Stuttgart at the members' meeting. Eighty-six.03 percent of the present members voted against his continued tenure at the helm of the club.

"Naturally I am disappointed, naturally this hurts me. In my opinion, I have given everything for VfB in the last six years," said Vogt, who was elected successor of Wolfgang Dietrich in December 2019, with a heavy voice. "From now on, I am just Claus and a VfB fan."

Rainer Adrion is no longer Vice-President in office. Since 70.02 percent of the present members voted against him, he had already announced his resignation beforehand.

Divide between fans and leadership

The organized fan scene of the Bundesliga team had expressed its opposition to Vogt and Adrion in advance and presented withdrawal motions. The background of these disputes is the alleged breach of a long-standing promise in connection with the separation of the professional department, according to which the president of the club should always be the chairman of the supervisory board. This is now being chaired by Tanja Gönner.

Parts of the organized fan scene feel betrayed after the loss of this position following Porsche's entry as an investor. They see the influence of the members diminishing - and demanded also due to a lack of transparency the resignation of the entire presidium.

Originally, the motions were scheduled as points 12 and 13 in the agenda. However, after a vote at the beginning of the event, the sequence was changed and the points were brought forward.

  1. Despite the rejection, Claus Vogt remains a dedicated fan of VfB Stuttgart, being from the Swabian region of Germany, where the club is based in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg.
  2. The leadership crisis at VfB Stuttgart has extended beyond the president's office, with Wolfgang Dietrich's successor, Claus Vogt, and Vice-President Rainer Adrion both receiving votes of no confidence from club members.
  3. This leadership crisis in the Bundesliga team has caused a rift between the club's members and its leadership, with the organized fan scene in Stuttgart expressing their opposition to both Vogt and Adrion.
  4. Following the members' meeting, the position of club president, traditionally also held as the chairman of the supervisory board, is now occupied by Tanja Gönner, marking a significant change in the club's leadership structure.
  5. The situation at VfB Stuttgart has sparked calls for transparency and reshaping of the presidium, with parts of the organized fan scene demanding the resignation of the entire presidium, further exemplifying the crisis surrounding the Swabian club.
