No learning effect: Next late 1860 knockout against Regensburg

The suspended 1860 coach Maurizio Jacobacci had to endure the next defeat of the Munich "Lions" in stoppage time in a reporter's booth at the Grünwalder Stadion. The 60-year-old reacted with frustration and anger to the late 0:1 (0:0) against SSV Jahn Regensburg.

"We simply have to learn from these situations. It can't be that we always get goals at the end of the game," moaned Jacobacci after the defeat in front of 15,000 spectators against the relegated second division side from the Upper Palatinate, who are having a great run in the 3rd soccer league and, unlike 1860, are developing into a top team. Jahn are level on points with Dynamo Dresden in second place.

Jacobacci was not allowed to watch the game inside with the team. And he saw how, one week after the 2-1 defeat at Viktoria Köln, the opponent scored the winning goal in the 92nd minute. Regensburg's Tobias Eisenhuth scored from an assist by Noel Eichinger, who had only just come on as a substitute. The Jahn joker's shot bounced off the inside of the post and into the goal.

"We get another goal in the 92nd minute that we shouldn't get like that. It's a ball that is simply played long into the middle. We have enough time to control the ball. It still finds an opposing player who can finish," said Jacobacci: "It wasn't the better team that won today, but the luckier one."

The "Lions", who were heavily short of substitutes, could well have celebrated a win or at least a draw if the strong Albion Vrenezi in particular had had more shooting luck. The attacker hit the crossbar once (42'). He also failed several times against the good Jahn goalkeeper Felix Gebhardt. "I think it's a shame to lose for the second time in stoppage time. There was certainly at least a point in it," said Vrenezi.

Regensburg continued their current winning streak with win number seven. "It was a close game, like all our games in this league," said coach Joe Enochs: "The lads believe in themselves. We're delighted to have won against such a good opponent."

Despite their struggles, 1860 Munich's coach Maurizio Jacobacci highlighted the importance of avoiding late goals in the 3rd league, as they suffered a 0:1 loss against a surging Regensburg team, currently level on points with Dynamo Dresden in the 2nd division. Jacobacci expressed disappointment, stating, "We get another goal in the 92nd minute that we shouldn't get like that," implying a clear opportunity squandered in a crucial moment of the match.
