Energy - No conclusion of LNG approval procedures before the end of the year
The approval procedure for the controversial LNG terminal in the port of Mukran on the island of Rügen will not be completed by the end of the year, according to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Environment Minister Till Backhaus (SPD). The deadline for objections is December 11, he said at the minister's end-of-year press conference in Schwerin on Thursday. A large number of objections were expected and would have to be carefully examined. "Thoroughness comes before speed," Backhaus emphasized.
Critics of the terminal fear environmental damage as a result of its operation and adverse effects on tourism.
The connecting pipeline for the natural gas from the terminal to the mainland, on the other hand, has already been fully approved. It should also be completed by the end of the year, as stated in Schwerin. The gas is to be fed into the European pipeline network at Lubmin.
