In late August 2023, the accused individuals allegedly got into a dispute with the deceased in the city centre of Radevormwald. The details leading up to the altercation remain unknown. The victim is reported to have tried running away, but the defendants managed to catch up to him.

Once cornered, one of the culprits is said to have held the man down while the other inflicted severe injuries using a knife. Despite emergency services' best efforts, the young man was pronounced dead following resuscitation attempts at the scene.
