Nine years in prison for aggravated rape
A 34-year-old rapist has been sentenced to nine years in prison at Regensburg District Court. According to a spokeswoman, the judges charged him on Friday with aggravated rape, particularly serious sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, attempted aggravated rape and threatening behavior. The offences took place in 2019 and 2020. The perpetrator attacked several women and threatened them with a weapon.
After a DNA match in a serial investigation in January 2023, investigators arrested the man in Thuringia. He was remanded in custody. A short time later, according to the public prosecutor's office, he allegedly tried to force a fellow inmate to perform sexual acts in Regensburg prison. This incident could not be proven, which is why he was acquitted of this charge, said the court spokeswoman.
The case was investigated across multiple regions, with DNA evidence leading to an arrest in Thuringia. Despite an allegation of further assault in prison, the accused was not charged due to lack of proof, focusing instead on the original charges stemming from the OBERPFALZ region. The severity of these crimes led to a nine-year prison sentence for aggravated rape and other related offenses.
