Nine representatives from Baden-Württemberg will travel to Brussels.

Following the previous European elections, a dozen MEPs representing the southwestern region in the European Parliament were chosen. However, in the upcoming elections, both the AfD and the Greens will have fewer MEPs heading to Brussels.

Upcoming European vote. - Nine representatives from Baden-Württemberg will travel to Brussels.

Following the European elections last weekend, there will be nine representatives from Baden-Württemberg in the European Parliament. This marks a decrease of three from 2019. The Statistical State Office in Fellbach near Stuttgart revealed this information on Tuesday. The CDU will have four representatives, the SPD will have two, and the AfD, Greens, and FDP will each have one. These are:

In Baden-Württemberg, the CDU dominated the European election with a considerable lead. They earned 32.0% of the votes, as per the provisional final results. Coming in second was the AfD with 14.7% of the votes, followed by the Greens (13.8%), SPD (11.6%), and FDP (6.8%). The newly formed "Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht" (BSW) secured 4.5% of the votes, according to the details. The voter turnout in the state was 66.4%.

In the European election that took place five years ago, the CDU led once more with 30.8% of the votes. Subsequently, the AfD was in second place with 10.0% of the votes, followed by the Greens (23.3%), SPD (13.3%), and FDP (6.8%). However, at a voter turnout of 64.0% in 2019, fewer people cast their ballots proportionally than this time.

Following the 2019 election, the CDU dispatched four representatives to Brussels and Strasbourg, while the Greens and AfD each assigned three representatives. The FDP and SPD each sent one representative.

Andreas Schwab, a representative from the CDU, is currently a prominent figure in the EU Parliament. In the event of the European elections, Daniel Caspary, as a CDU representative, may also become an influential figure in Brussels.
