Because of construction sites - Night train between Berlin and Paris canceled for weeks

The night trains from Berlin to Paris and Brussels are cancelled due to construction works on the rail network in Germany and France from mid-August to end of October. The same applies to the night connection between Vienna and Paris, as the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) announced. Therefore, these three connections will be cancelled from August 12th to October 25th.

"Unfortunately, we have to temporarily suspend the operation of some Nightjet lines to avoid unexpected train disruptions, delays and inconvenience for our customers", the ÖBB stated.

The night connections between Berlin and Paris were only added to the Nightjet schedule in December. The journey to Paris lasts approximately 14 hours and goes through Halle (Saale), Erfurt and Mannheim. The train is divided in the middle to also enable a connection to Brussels.

Originally, there were planned three departures per week from Berlin to Paris. However, in recent times, fewer connections were actually offered.

  1. Despite the cancellation of night trains from Berlin to Paris and Brussels due to construction works on the rail network in France and Germany, passengers can still explore Europe by day, using the extensive railroad network.
  2. The cancellation of the night train service between Berlin and Paris will significantly impact traffic, forcing travelers to seek alternative modes of transportation, such as overnight buses or flights.
  3. The announcement of the cancellation of the night train connection between Vienna and Paris by ÖBB has left many travelers frustrated, as it was a unique opportunity to explore France and Austria in one journey.
  4. The night train services between Berlin and Paris were a popular choice among tourists who wished to visit iconic cities like Paris, Brussels, and Berlin in a single trip, avoiding daytime traffic and long waits at the airport.
  5. Travelers planning trips to Paris, Brussels, Berlin, Vienna, and other European cities should closely monitor the construction works on the rail network in France and Germany, as cancellations may continue to impact night train services in the coming months.
  6. With construction works continuing on the rail network in France and Germany, travelers are advised to consider alternative routes or styles of travel, such as flying or exploring lower-traffic destinations, to ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip to Europe.
