Next year's vacation will be cheaper here
In times of inflation, saving is the order of the day - even when traveling. Early bookers in particular can still make bargains here, as a current price analysis by the Holidaycheck review and booking portal shows. The analysis takes a look at travel trends for 2024 and predicts a positive development in the area of package tours and car rental bookings.
Prices for package tours will rise by an average of three percent compared to the previous year, which is a clear contrast to the eleven percent price increase from 2022 to 2023. Christoph Heinzmann, travel expert at the portal, explains that an increase of between five and eight percent has been considered normal in the last three years and therefore emphasizes: "The current price level is really positive."
The increasing trend towards early bookings is particularly noticeable, which manifested itself as early as mid-October with an average increase of 24 percent compared to the previous year. Fuerteventura, Mallorca and the Turkish Riviera are the focus of travel planning, with Mallorca standing out with an increase in bookings of almost 40 percent in mid-November. The increasing demand for early booking offers can be explained by the limited availability of the most popular hotels, room categories and flight connections, says Heinzmann.
Moderate price increase, rental cars mostly cheaper
The price increase for vacations at Easter 2024 is two percent, while it is three percent for the coming summer. In some regions, such as the Turkish Aegean and the Turkish Riviera, the cheapest family vacations are available from 2400 euros for a week during the German Easter vacations, which corresponds to a decrease of around 6 percent compared to the same period in 2023.
In addition to Turkey, other cheap travel options for Easter and summer 2024 include Gran Canaria (down 14 percent at Easter compared to 2023) and Monastir in Tunisia (down 3 percent in the summer vacations). Dubai (down 9 percent in summer), Marsa Alam and El Quseir (down 4 percent in summer, both Egypt) and the Greek island of Rhodes (also down 4 percent in summer) are also far ahead in the searches.

The price analysis is based on the evaluation of searches by families with two school-age children for a week's package holiday with flights, hotel and meals during the Easter and summer vacations in 2024, as well as the resulting offers from over 65 tour operators.
Although there is currently no reluctance to search, there is a lack of definitive bookings for the otherwise very popular destinations in Egypt. The travel expert explains this with the current political situation: "We can see from the search queries that interest in Egypt is high. But if the situation remains as tense as it is, we assume that bookings will be made at shorter notice."
Holidaymakers can find up-to-date information on travel safety in Egypt and other countries on the website of the Federal Foreign Office. There, German citizens can also register on the "ELEFAND" (Electronic Registration of Germans Abroad) crisis preparedness list if they are staying abroad.
The early booking offers for rental cars in popular destinations such as Majorca, Sardinia, Crete and Lisbon are also surprisingly positive, as the prices per day are even lower than last year. This is probably due to the now more relaxed situation at vehicle manufacturers and suppliers; the problems in the international supply chains had led to supply bottlenecks for new and therefore also rental cars since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
