Tariffs - Next warning strike by educators and teachers in Berlin

Due to another warning strike, some parents in Berlin will once again have to look for alternative childcare options for their children on Wednesday and Thursday. The trade unions Verdi and GEW have called on all employees covered by the collective agreement of the federal states to take part in the two-day industrial action. Around one in five children in Berlin's daycare centers attends a municipal facility and could therefore be affected by the warning strike.

Educators and teachers in schools, university employees and social workers in youth, health and social services offices are also to strike again. The police union (GdP) is also taking part in the action. The unions have called on the strikers to gather at Ernst-Reuter-Platz in Berlin at 8.45 am.

The background to this is the current wage dispute in the public sector of the federal states. No agreement has been reached in the previous rounds of negotiations. Negotiations are taking place nationwide, with the next round of negotiations planned for Thursday and Friday in Potsdam. In this context, the unions have repeatedly drawn attention to their demands with warning strikes in Berlin in recent weeks.

Among other things, the unions are demanding a 10.5 percent pay rise, but at least 500 euros per month for a collective agreement period of twelve months. For trainees, the increase should amount to 200 euros. For Berlin, Hamburg and Bremen, the unions are also demanding a city-state bonus of 300 euros.
