Next setback: Kaiserslautern also lose against Kiel
1. FC Kaiserslautern is still in a slump in the 2nd Bundesliga. On matchday 14 on Sunday, the Palatinate team lost 3-0 (0-2) to Holstein Kiel, who are increasingly moving up the table. While Kiel are now in third place in the table with 26 points, the Palatinate are slipping further and further down the table after picking up just one point from their last five games. With 18 points, FCK are eleventh and only five points ahead of 16th-placed Schalke 04.
Kiel's goals were scored by Benedikt Pichler (16th minute), Fiete Arp (44th) and Pichler again (58th). In front of 38,367 spectators at the Fritz Walter Stadium, the visitors were clearly the better team throughout the match. Kaiserslautern were completely unsettled in defense at times, especially in the first half, and were well served with the two-goal deficit at the half-time whistle. Kiel could be the beneficiaries next week when top teams St. Pauli and HSV play each other in the Hamburg city derby.
Despite the loss, Holstein Kiel continues to impress in Bundesliga 2, moving up to third place with 26 points. Meanwhile, Kaiserslautern's struggles continue, as they were defeated 3-0 by Kiel, resulting in their eleventh position in the table with only 18 points.
