Darts World Championship - Next setback for darts pro Hopp
Germany's former top darts player Max Hopp has suffered another setback. The 27-year-old Hessian suffered a fracture to his heel bone and a torn ligament in his right foot while playing handball last weekend, as Hopp reported on Sport1 at the start of the World Championships in London.
"I will do everything I can to optimize and accelerate the healing process," said Hopp, who is working as an expert at the title fights at Alexandra Palace. The Q-School, which is important for many professionals, takes place in January. There, the players can earn so-called Tour Cards in order to be eligible for many important tournaments of the PDC.
Hopp made his debut at the World Championship at the age of 16 and has participated in a total of eight events. Since then, the "Maximiser" has experienced a remarkable decline on the darts scene. In 2023, he earned the equivalent of less than 2,000 euros in prize money. Hopp was a long way from qualifying for the World Championships in London.
