The Bavarian Ministry of Transport has introduced a new cycling app for the Free State. "Radroutenplaner Bayern" replaces the previous "Bayernnetz für Radler 2020" app, the ministry announced in Munich. The free program for cyclists has new map technology and is easy and intuitive to use, said Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter (CSU).

According to a spokesperson for the ministry, other new features of the app include the use of offline maps and a 50,000-kilometer cycling network with themed routes. Individual maps can also be stored offline.

The General German Cycling Club (ADFC) in Bavaria welcomes the "continuous improvement and development" of the offer, as it is called on request. Integrated into the new app are also all cycling-friendly hosts in Bavaria, such as campsites, holiday apartments or hotels, which carry the so-called ADFC certification "Bett+Bike". There are no experience values in the use of the new app yet.

To get people in Bavaria to switch to the bicycle, it is not enough to have apps, said the CSU politician Bernreiter, but above all "a modern and safe cycling infrastructure" is needed. Together with the municipalities, the Ministry of Transport has set itself the goal of building another 1,500 kilometers of new cycle paths by 2030. The Free State invests annually 40 to 50 million euros in the construction of cycle paths on federal and state roads.

The new cycling app, "Radroutenplaner Bayern," includes features like offline map usage, which allows users to navigate bike routes without an internet connection. With the app, cyclists can also access a vast 50,000-kilometer cycling network, complete with themed routes, and even store individual maps offline for convenience.
