Weather - New week starts with snow and risk of icy roads
The German Weather Service (DWD) is warning of slippery roads in Hesse at the start of the week. There may also be gale-force winds in the mountains. From later in the morning, snowfall is expected to move in from the west, the DWD announced on Monday. Up to five centimetres of fresh snow could then remain at lower altitudes, and five to ten centimetres in the low mountain ranges. In the evening, the precipitation will slowly change to rain at lower altitudes, the meteorologists said. In the night to Tuesday, there is a risk of black ice in some areas due to freezing rain. The snow line will then rise to the summits.
Temperatures will remain frosty between 0 and minus 3 degrees during the day on Monday. According to the DWD, only along the Rhine and Main rivers are slightly plus degrees possible.

The warning from DWD especially applies to roads in the mountainous region of Hesse, increasing the risk of slipperiness due to snow and ice. Residents in Offenbach might also experience some gusty winds during this weather event. The DWD mentioned that strong winds are expected in mountain country, potentially posing additional hazards. Despite the snowfall, there's a possibility of rain later in the day, which could lead to additional slipperiness due to the moisture.
