Traffic - New timetables for rail and public transport in Hesse

In addition to Deutsche Bahn, the transport associations in Hesse are also changing their timetables on Sunday night. Both the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsbund (RMV) and the Nordhessischer Verkehrsverbund (NVV) want to expand their services despite the tight budget situation.

According to the companies, the RMV timetable will bring new features, particularly for passengers on the so-called Mittelhessenexpress. The sub-network includes four lines: RB40(Frankfurt - Giessen - Dillenburg), RB41 (Frankfurt - Giessen - Marburg - Schwalmstadt-Treysa) and RB49 (Hanau - Friedberg) as well as the new RB37 line (Frankfurt - Giessen), which will start in December 2024. The Hessische Landesbahn will take over operations there.

According to the information provided, there will be individual additional journeys in the Rheingau on the RB10 line (Frankfurt - Wiesbaden - Neuwied) and along the Lahn on the RE24 line between Limburg and Giessen. There will also be more journeys on Sundays and public holidays in the Rhön on the RB52 line between Fulda and Gersfeld and on express bus services in the Taunus (line X72: Wiesbaden - Limburg). RMV has announced 2300 construction measures for the coming year. In some cases, these will involve week-long closures of main routes and will test the patience of passengers in some places.

In the area covered by the Nordhessischer Verkehrsverbund (NVV), passengers in the districts of Kassel, Hersfeld-Rotenburg and Werra-Meißner in particular can look forward to more services and more new vehicles. In rail transport, there is an innovation on the route between North Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia: From the timetable change, the RE11 from Düsseldorf via Paderborn, Warburg and Hofgeismar to Kassel will run every hour. There will also be services on the line later in the evening.

There are also innovations on Deutsche Bahn's long-distance route: There will be additional ICE trains from Frankfurt, Kassel and Hanau to Berlin. From March, there will be more direct connections from Hesse to Sylt: A pair of Intercity trains will then run daily all year round (instead of only at weekends in the winter half of the year) from Darmstadt, Frankfurt, Giessen, Marburg and Kassel to Westerland and back, for example. There will also be a direct TGV connection from Frankfurt to Bordeaux and back on five Saturdays in June and July 2024.
