Bundesliga - New striker for FC Augsburg
Steve Mounié is set to score goals for Bundesliga side FC Augsburg in the future. The 29-year-old Beninese national team player was previously under contract with French Ligue 1 team Stade Brest 29, where his contract had expired. In Augsburg, he signed a contract until June 30, 2027.
This rebuild in the offensive department under trainer Jess Thorup continues. After Yusuf Kadabayi and Samuel Essende, it's now Mounié. He scored 44 goals in 162 Ligue-1 games. From 2017 to 2020, the physically strong striker played in England for Huddersfield Town. The captain of the Beninese national team scored 17 goals in 53 international matches.
No transfer fee
"Steve Mounié is a physically robust and header-strong striker who particularly convinces with his skills in the opponent's penalty area. Steve has experience at the highest European level and will also be an important figure for our team as a person," said Sport Director Marinko Jurendic about the transfer-free acquisition.
"FC Augsburg put a lot of effort into me and offer me the best conditions to bring my strengths to the pitch. From the first training session, I will give everything for the club and make my contribution to a successful season," said Mounié. "Additionally, I am proud that I will be the first Beninese national player to play in three of the five top leagues in Europe."
Demirovic is expected to bring a decent transfer fee
The new setup in the offensive is necessary because captain and top scorer Ermedin Demirovic is considering leaving. He should bring in a double-digit million euro transfer fee, presumably around 20 million. Sven Michel is returning to SC Paderborn. Dion Beljo is in talks for a loan.
