Rail traffic - New railroad bridge on Marschbahn put into operation

In Meldorf (Dithmarschen District), a bridge on the Marschbahn line between Hamburg and the island of Sylt has been put into operation. The bridge was renovated for approximately 3.3 million Euros, according to Deutsche Bahn. The construction period lasted around five months.

First, auxiliary bridges were installed in March, and the substructure, known as abutments, was concreted in April and May. Simultaneously, according to the railway company, the superstructures were manufactured in Senftenberg, Brandenburg, on which the rails then run and have now been completed. Restoration work in the track area will continue until the end of October.

After the completion of the renovated bridge in Meldorf, regular rail traffic between Hamburg and Sylt resumed, significantly reducing traffic on the roads. This modernized railroad bridge is a testament to the investment in infrastructure in the region of Schleswig-Holstein. Additionally, the renovation project included improvements to the railroad tracks in the Dithmarschen district, ensuring smoother railroad journeys for commuters.
