Construction - New power bridge in Magdeburg not available until 2024
Magdeburg residents will have to wait until next year for the complete opening of the new river bridge over the Elbe. "This is due to the frosty temperatures and snow, which are preventing or delaying the necessary work to such an extent that an opening date for all types of traffic in 2023 is no longer feasible," the city announced on Wednesday. However, there is some relief: streetcars will be able to cross the new bridges from 23 December. The new Strombrücke will then also be open to all types of traffic. The old Strombrücke with Zollbrücke and Anna-Ebert-Brücke will be reactivated for the time being.
When the Kaiser-Otto-Brücke and the Königin-Editha-Brücke can be opened to all types of traffic depends on the weather, it was also reported. For the weather-dependent work on the two new bridge structures, plus temperatures are required for a certain period of time.
The river bridge spans the Stromelbe, the Zollelbe and the Alte Elbe. It is one of two important connections between the old town and the eastern Elbe districts.

The new power bridge in Magdeburg, located on the Elbe, is part of Saxony-Anhalt's municipal infrastructure undergoing construction. Despite streetcars being able to use the bridge from December 23, the full opening for all types of traffic is delayed until 2024 due to harsh winter conditions affecting the bridge construction.
