- New drinking water supply for the Pellworm

Construction of a new drinking water pipeline from the mainland to the North Frisian island Pellworm can begin. The state will contribute around 3.7 million euros to the expected costs of around 10.5 million euros, the state government announced. The Ministry of Finance, Environment and Interior, together with the North Water Association, have laid the groundwork for the project in recent months.

The island of Pellworm, with its approximately 1,200 inhabitants, and the Halligen Hooge and Süderoog are currently supplied with drinking water from the mainland via a pipeline over the Hallig Nordstrandischmoor. According to the state government, this supply line is partially exposed in the tidal flats and threatens to fail. The new pipeline will be laid deeper in the tidal flats and will run via the Hamburger Hallig.

The existing drinking water pipeline to Pellworm is vulnerable due to its partial exposure in the tidal flats, leading to potential failures. With the upcoming pipeline construction, the new water supply route will be laid deeper in the tidal flats, ensuring a more secure water supply.
