2024 will be an exciting year for air travelers to and from Germany, especially for foreigners coming from afar, thanks to the introduction of new direct intercontinental flights. Let's delve into the details of the new direct flights to and from Germany in 2024.

Fresh transatlantic transportation options
For those needing to cross to the other side, flagship German airline Lufthansa is adding numerous new direct routes from its major airports in Frankfurt and Munich.
Starting from May 30, a daily direct flight will connect Munich and Seattle-Tacoma Airport, complementing the existing direct route between Seattle-Tacoma and Frankfurt. It will operate daily in the summer and three times a week in winter.
Lufthansa will also introduce two new direct flights from its main hub in Frankfurt, including a daily flight to Minneapolis-Saint Paul and a flight to Raleigh-Durham, which will run five times a week. Both routes will commence in early June 2024.
Condor is also adding American and Canadian routes. Starting from September 6, the airline will offer direct flights to San Antonio, Texas, three times a week.
Those flying to the western part of Canada, hoping to enjoy the Rocky Mountains, will be able to fly twice a week on a direct Condor flight from Frankfurt to Calgary. This increases competition on the Calgary route, which is already served daily by Air Canada.
Lufthansa is also increasing the number of flights on some existing routes starting in the summer of 2024.
The current Frankfurt - Austin route will increase from three to four times a week, and the San Diego - Munich route will become daily, instead of five times a week.
Eurowings will also increase the number of flights from Tampa to Frankfurt, currently operating four times a week, to daily.
New routes to Iraq and Armenia
Lufthansa's subsidiary, Eurowings, is also expanding its offerings for travelers heading further east.
From December 19 of this year, Berlin, Hamburg, and Stuttgart will receive daily flights to Erbil in northern Iraq - each of them will operate twice a week. They will complement the existing service between Erbil and Düsseldorf.
Eurowings' offering creates some competition for German routes to Erbil. Iraqi Airways and UR Airlines already operate some direct flights between Erbil and Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, and Munich, although flights to Hamburg and Stuttgart remain new.
The carrier also plans to add a weekly connection with the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, starting in May.
