Politicians have been paying more attention to civil protection and disaster control for some time now. The Ministry of the Interior in Kiel is responding to this.

The new civil protection department of the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of the Interior has started work. The ministry announced on Friday that the department will initially have an additional 15 employees. There are currently 22 employees in the department for fire departments and disaster control. In the long term, 51 men and women are to work in the department.

The newly created positions will be filled gradually. Tilo von Riegen, the current head of the municipal department and state election director, will become head of the civil protection department.

In this year's budget, the state parliament created 15 additional positions for civil protection. The coalition wants to improve preventative disaster protection, the protection of critical infrastructure, civil defense and crisis management in particular.
