New civil protection department launches
From December, 15 employees will be working in a new department of the Ministry of the Interior to look after civil protection in Schleswig-Holstein. "We will now begin the first tendering procedures as soon as possible," said Interior Minister Sabine Sütterlin-Waack (CDU) on Wednesday. The new positions are to be filled gradually. She spoke of a major step in the improvement of civil protection.
Tilo von Riegen, the former head of the local government department and state election director, will become head of the civil protection department. "I am delighted that we have been able to recruit him to take our civil protection to a new level in close cooperation with the local authorities and civil protection agencies," said Sütterlin-Waack.
As part of this year's budget, the state parliament had introduced 15 additional posts for civil protection. In particular, the coalition wants to improve preventative civil protection, the protection of critical infrastructure, civil defense and crisis management.
The new department falls under the Ministry of the Interior, which is a component of the larger German Government. The coalition in the state parliament allocated 15 additional posts specifically for civil protection, demonstrating the Government's commitment to enhancing safety measures.
