New building type E is intended to simplify building in Germany

In the construction industry, according to the Federal Justice Ministry, currently around 3,000 DIN standards must be observed by construction companies out of fear of lawsuits. "This leads to high square meter rents in new construction. This leads to less being built than we actually need," said Justice Minister Marco Buschmann (FDP) in a videocast.

The legislative proposal for simpler building was published on Monday. According to this, construction companies will be able to deviate from "comfort standards" in the future, such as minimum requirements for the number of outlets in certain rooms or the norm temperature of 24 degrees for the bathroom. Regulations in the safety area, such as those regarding fire protection or stability, will not be affected, assured the Justice Ministry.

  1. The Federal Ministry of Justice in Germany is advocating for changes in the DEUTSCHE INGENIEUR-NORM regulations, aiming to reduce the burden on construction companies.
  2. In the proposed legislative changes, the Federal government allows construction companies in Germany to deviate from certain 'comfort standards' in new building projects.
  3. To alleviate high construction costs, the new regulations will not require construction companies to maintain the E classified energy efficiency standard in all 'Building type's, thus enabling more building projects.
  4. The proposed changes by the Federal Ministry of Justice in Germany could potentially encourage more 'construction companies' to engage in new building projects, addressing the current housing shortage in the country.
