Alternative route - New bridge for cyclists on the Saale cycle path opened

Cyclists on the Saale cycle path can now avoid a busy main road and use a new bridge. The 70-metre-long pioneer bridge over the Saale in Saalfeld was opened to cyclists on Wednesday, as announced by the Ministry of Infrastructure. This allows cyclists to avoid the busy federal highway 85.

According to the ministry, the old bridge - which was around 40 years old - was irreversibly damaged and had to be closed and then demolished. Construction of the new bridge began in October 2022. According to the ministry, a total of over three million euros in federal funds have been invested in the project. The Saale Cycle Path meanders along the Saale from the Fichtelgebirge to just before Magdeburg and is considered one of the most famous river cycle paths in Germany.
