- New bomb threats in Saxony - six schools affected
Following bomb threats against two schools in Plauen, police have given the all-clear. On Thursday morning, identical emails were received at the upper schools, as police reported. Initially, the possibility of the threats being serious had to be considered. Consequently, the schools were locked down before the start of classes.
The police searched the buildings with sniffer dogs but found no suspicious objects. The students were reportedly sent home or temporarily cared for outside the school buildings.
Threats also in Central Saxony and the Ore Mountains
So far, it is unclear whether there is a connection to the Wednesday bomb threats, but more schools have received identical emails, a spokesperson for the Zwickau police directorate said.
Two schools each in Marienberg (Ore Mountains) and Rochlitz (Central Saxony) also received threats, a spokesperson for the Chemnitz police directorate reported. However, the police did not consider these to be serious, allowing classes to continue as normal.
Several cases on Wednesday
On Wednesday, a school in Freiberg was also affected, but classes were able to take place. This was not the case at two schools in Görlitz and one each in Bautzen and Lauta, where the buildings were searched after classes were suspended. Police later gave the all-clear. Investigations are ongoing. Schools in Saxony had only returned from the holidays on Monday.
Parallel threats in Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt
Meanwhile, threats were also made against schools in Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt on Wednesday. In one case in Jena, it was reported that identical emails were sent to schools nationwide. Whether there is a connection to the threats against schools in Saxony is not yet known, according to the police directorate in Görlitz.
Children were sent home or temporarily cared for outside the school buildings due to bomb threats. In Marienberg and Rochlitz, children attended classes as normal despite receiving similar threats.
