Following his recent achievement of breaking a German record in the decathlon, athlete Leo Neugebauer is even more eager to participate in the upcoming Paris Olympics. Expressing his excitement to the German Press Agency, the 23-year-old stated, "I couldn't be happier - especially with a top-notch decathlon performance leading up to the Olympics." He's totally hyped to take part in the competitive event.

With merely two months remaining until the Paris Olympics, Neugebauer has significantly increased his chances of winning gold. His remarkable performance garnered him the gold favorite status, falling short of the magical 9,000-point mark by only 82 points. During the college championships in Eugene, Oregon, he managed to break three German records in a year, thanks to his remarkable performance with the discus.

Neugebauer on His Performance

Reflecting on his latest achievement, the gifted athlete from VfB Stuttgart said, "The competition went well, I didn't have a particularly disastrous event." He admitted to wanting to improve in a few disciplines, but noted, "Other than that, it was a solid performance overall." He was a bit modest in his response considering the amazing outcome.

"I'm glad I was able to maintain consistency in all my events. That's what earned me such a great result," explained the college student who is now in sixth place on the all-time best list.

Neugebauer Misses European Championships

Due to his participation in the college championships in the US, Neugebauer won't be attending the European Championships in Rome. The decathlon event is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. Instead, Niklas Kaul, the 2019 world champion, will be the spotlight athlete as he defends his title after the successful 2021 European Championship in Munich at the Olympic Stadium in Rome. Other German participants include Manuel Eitel (Ulm), Tim Nowak (Ulm), and Felix Wolter (Grafelfing).
