Soccer - Neuer is not yet thinking about the end of his career

Soccer-National goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is not yet thinking about the end of his career. "Honestly: I don't even think about retiring. It would bother me and put pressure on me if I kept reminding myself: This could be your last tournament", said the 38-year-old goalkeeper in an interview with "Welt".

"That would be psychologically bad for me. That's why I'm looking forward to every game like this one against Spain, which is really a big game", added Neuer. The German national team faces Spain in Stuttgart on Friday (6:00 PM/ARD/Magenta TV).

There will come a time when he will have to think about it. "But not now", emphasized the goalkeeper of FC Bayern Munich. The World Cup winner of 2014 suffered a broken shin and fibula in his right lower leg during a ski tour after the group stage at the World Cup 2022 in Qatar, but is again the number one at the club and in the national team.

No move to Saudi Arabia or Qatar

Because he is fully committed to the EM, what's happening in Munich isn't necessarily his concern, added Neuer. The German record champion finished third in the Bundesliga this season and was titleless. "We want to attack again", announced Neuer.

His contract with FC Bayern expires in a year. He has already thought about moving abroad, Neuer admitted. But there has never been a club where he thought he would have more fun, said the goalkeeper who joined Bayern Munich from Schalke 04 in 2011.

"Even though one should never say: I would not go to Saudi Arabia or Qatar", emphasized Neuer. Many European stars have found their way to these clubs with highly lucrative contracts lately. An option might have been the North American league MLS, reported the German national goalkeeper.
