Aid organizations - Neighboring association takes over insolvent Red Cross in Goslar

The work of the insolvent district association of the German Red Cross (DRK) in Goslar will in future be taken over by the neighboring association from Osterode. This was decided by the Osterode association at a general meeting in Bad Sachsa last Friday, as announced on Tuesday. This gave the local associations in the Goslar area a new umbrella organization. The "Goslarsche Zeitung", among others, had previously reported on this.

The new Osterode-Goslar district association will not take over any obligations of the insolvent Goslar DRK district association, explained the deputy managing director. The area of the previous Osterode district association has been extended to include the local associations in and around Goslar. The local associations include the Sankt Andreasberg mountain rescue service.

The Red Cross in Goslar filed for insolvency on September 8 - three months after its subsidiary Pflege und Service GmbH filed for insolvency on June 8, as announced by insolvency administrator Peter Steuerwald at the end of 2022. The case caused a stir because 300,000 euros in donations for Ukraine will also flow into the insolvency estate. The "Goslarsche Zeitung" newspaper, which was a partner in the fundraising campaign, announced at the time that it wanted to prevent this - but to no avail. "Nothing has changed in the legal situation regarding the donations," said Steuerwald.

The merging of the DRK structures is a great opportunity to strengthen the work in the Harz region and make it future-proof, emphasized the newly elected association president Tobias Wittig. "We have already worked together effectively in some areas in the past." The work of the local associations for the population can now continue without interruption, said the President of the Goslar district association, Frank Straube.
