The automotive sector. - Nearly 100,000 electric cars are accumulated in Germany.
Automotive specialists in Chemnitz have pointed out that a significant number of electric cars in Germany are currently not in use. Last year, there was a record number of unsold cars, as per automotive researcher Werner Olle.
He estimated the surplus to be around 100,000, with many of these vehicles ending up parked at factories, dealerships, and ports. This affected both locally produced vehicles and imports. The decrease in electric car subsidies had caused domestic demand to drop significantly.
In May, the Federal Statistical Office reported that the export of electric cars had increased substantially the previous year. Consequently, 786,000 of these vehicles, valued at €36 billion, were shipped out. This represented a 58% increase in exports. Every fourth car exported from Germany had a purely electric engine.
"The export market can't completely fix the issue," warned Olle. The idle production is costly and can only be reduced through discounts. The statistics show a widespread disconnect between production and domestic demand.
