Inundation - Nearby region of shuttered Biblis nuclear facility continues to be submerged.
Flooding next to the shuttered Biblis nuclear power plant is being drained, a company rep for operator RWE confirmed on Tuesday. A reporter asked about the situation and RWE said efforts were being made to level out the water as best they could. The former home of Block A's cooling towers, which are now empty, is where the discharge is said to be occurring. The water is flowing through a drainage system onto adjacent fields.
Technical aid groups and fire brigades from the area have been working since Monday with pumps to bring down the water levels. The affected area is below the level of the decontaminated plant itself, which has been raised to the height of the embankment. The spokesperson noted the decommissioned nuclear facility was unaffected by the events.
Following Germany's nuclear phase-out in the wake of the Fukushima catastrophe in 2011, the multi-block Biblis nuclear plant was closed down. The deconstruction process began in 2017 and two of the four original cooling towers still remain standing.

The floodwaters are reportedly discharging into the former location of Block A's cooling towers, now empty, and flowing through a drainage system onto adjacent fields.
